Surfing Guide

Jenelle’s love for surfing runs deep, starting out on the gentle waves of Berry Bay South where she taught her kids to paddle out and catch their first rides. What began as a way to share the ocean with her family quickly grew into a personal passion — and today, you’ll find her confidently taking on some of South Australia’s heaviest and most iconic breaks.

With years of experience under her belt, Jenelle has a deep respect for the ocean and a strong connection to the local surf community. Whether it’s guiding beginners through their first wave or lining up for a big set on a reef break, she brings energy, knowledge, and pure stoke to every session.

Jenelle's Favourite Breaks!

North Berry

Beach break for the less experienced. Works well with a smaller swell and can have some fantastic banks. Too much swell it is  prone to closing out and dumping. Need south east to north east winds. Please be aware of rips, children  should never be unsupervised.

South Berry

Good for the novice and kids. Considerably smaller conditions than North Berry as a rule. Still keep eyes on smaller children and the not so strong swimmers, accidents can happen even in relatively tame conditions. Can be an option if North Berry is closing out.

Spits

An average quality left-hand semi point break up to  2 metres. Has a vicious rip at times. Best on south west to south east winds.

Salmon Hole

A very good quality right-hand  semi point break up to 2 metres. Long Hollow and fast. Best on north westerly winds and low to medium tide. Be wary of the suck rock.

Rock Pools

Another fickle, powerful right-hand reef break up to 3 metres and bigger. Can get very good under the right conditions. Best on north to north west winds on any tide.

Baby Lizards

Can get good but is generally only an average quality, short right hand reef break up to 2 metres. Easterly winds and a medium to high tide.

Trespassers

A very good quality right-hand reef break up to 3 metres. Trespassers is very powerful with a take off similar to Chinamans. It is for the experienced riders only. Best on an easterly and low to medium tide. It can work on a high tide if the swell is big.

Richards

About 250 metres north of  the main break at Pondie you arrive at Richards. This too is a good quality reef/beach combination right hander that breaks up to 1.5 metres. Richards is worth checking out when only the left is working at Pondie. Best on east and north east winds and low to medium tide

West Cape

Similar to Ethel Wreck. A left hand and occasional right-hand beach break up to 2 metres. Best on north or north west winds and a low to medium tide.

Ethel Wreck

As summer break only. Fickle but can get very good. Usually a powerful right-hander up to 2 metres. Best on a low to medium tide and north easterly winds. Be cautious when scrambling down the cliff face.

Chinamans

A hollow powerful left hand reef break of excellent quality, complete with hair raising take-off and a sharp, shallow ledge. Definitely for experienced riders only. Best at low to medium tide in north or light north westerly winds with a 1-3 metre swell. It occasionally produce a right hander as well.

Baby Chinamans

Average quality left hand reef break up to 2 metres. Suitable for beginners. Fairly slow wave that works best on north westerly winds and low to medium tides.
